What influences drive people to do what they do?
For my final product, I wanted to see what influenced people to do what they do. Why do teachers teach? Why do people write? Why do doctors become doctors? Why do mothers choose to leave their jobs and stay home to raise their children? What influences people to do what they love? What influences people to behave the way they behave?
Here is the first quote for my product. A friend of mine just completed her Master's degree and completed her thesis on the resiliency of students. Her entire Master's degree research was based on personal influences; things she witnessed, things she felt, things she dealt with, challenges she faced, etc. Here is her quote:
"I chose the topic of resiliency for my thesis for two reasons. The first was that my first few years of teaching were incredibly difficult for me, as I was faced with many situations I'd never dealt with before (deaths of students, suicide, abuse, mental health issues, etc.). I struggled with dealing with these topics because I had never dealt with them before, and I was searching for a way to help my students. The second reason was to improve my teaching practices to make me a more informed educator.
I can tell you that my defense provided me with the best explanation (one of the professors questioning me brought this up): love. I love myself, I love my school and I love my students, and I was looking for a way to better support all three."
